Future Leaders Lab for a Changing World
Leadership today is no longer about having all the answers. It is about creating clarity when circumstances are unclear, building trust under pressure and helping people perform while organisations continue to change.

The Future Leaders Lab for a Changing World is an intensive leadership development programme for professionals working in international and corporate environments where English is the common business language.

Unlike leadership programmes that focus primarily on models, tools and management techniques, this course works at a deeper level: participants examine the assumptions and behavioural patterns that shape how they lead. The programme combines self-reflection, practical leadership tools, communication practice and realistic business challenges. Its underlying principle is that sustainable business results require people-centred leadership.

Future Leaders Lab for a Changing World - Leadership Development for International Companies

Ihr Nutzen

YOUR BENEFIT

The Future Leaders Lab for a Changing World is an English-language leadership development programme for emerging leaders, team leads and high-potential professionals working in international companies. Participants develop the mindset, communication skills and practical leadership capabilities needed to lead teams effectively through change, uncertainty and transformation.

Leadership today is no longer about having all the answers. It is about creating clarity when circumstances are unclear, building trust under pressure and helping people perform while organisations continue to change.

Austrian companies face a paradox: 67% of mid-size businesses cite talent shortage as their greatest risk, while 62% of employees say they would consider leaving their current employer. This is not a recruiting problem. It is a leadership problem. (EY Mittelstandsbarometer Österreich, Januar 2025 – hokify Umfrage Österreich 2024/2025)

Most leadership training focuses on tools, styles, and frameworks. Future Leaders Lab for a Changing World goes further: it challenges the assumptions that drive leadership behavior and develops leaders who understand that sustainable business results require people-first thinking.

What you will be able to do:

  • Leading with clarity and direction, even when you don't have all the answers.
  • build trust through consistent leadership behaviour
  • communicate in a way that creates understanding, commitment and action
  • recognise and challenge leadership patterns that may be limiting your effectiveness
  • lead teams through transformation, uncertainty and organisational pressure
  • develop people rather than simply manage their performance
  • delegate responsibility while maintaining accountability
  • conduct difficult conversations more confidently
  • represent your team effectively within a larger organisation
  • translate your learning into a personal leadership development plan and concrete actions

These outcomes reflect the programme’s focus on clarity, trust, communication, transformation and people development.

Examination & Certificate

The programme concludes with a final examination in the form of an oral professional discussion (Fachgespräch).

During this examination, participants demonstrate their understanding of the key leadership concepts covered in the programme and their ability to apply them to practical leadership situations.

Upon successful completion of the examination, participants receive an official WIFI certificate.

Course Content

The programme is built around one continuous business case: Alpine Systems GmbH, an Austrian production and technology company that has recently been acquired by an international group.

Participants follow Alex, a 31-year-old engineer who is unexpectedly promoted to team lead. Alex has strong technical credibility but no previous leadership experience and inherits a team that has traditionally been managed rather than truly led.

Across the five modules, the situation becomes progressively more complex: digital transformation, a new corporate strategy, talent pressure and an established process-oriented leadership culture all create realistic leadership challenges. Participants work through decisions for which there is often no single perfect answer.

This case-based approach makes the programme particularly relevant for leaders working in international corporations, matrix organisations and changing business environments.

Module 1: Who You Are as a Leader

Effective leadership starts with understanding how others actually experience you.

Topics include:

  • self-awareness and leadership blind spots
  • leadership identity
  • developing an authentic leadership style
  • recognising behavioural patterns that limit you
  • applying the 3R Rule: Recognize – Reframe – Respond
  • turning reflection into everyday leadership practice

Key question: What kind of leader does your team actually experience?

Module 2: How You Communicate

Leadership communication becomes most important when pressure is high and the message is difficult.

Topics include:

  • communicating clearly under pressure
  • structuring messages for impact
  • dialogue versus one-way communication
  • feedback that changes behaviour
  • addressing difficult topics
  • approaching conversations leaders often postpone

Key question: What are the conversations you keep postponing?

Module 3: How You Build Your Team

High-performing teams are not created through control. They are created through trust, ownership, development and accountability.

Topics include:

  • people-first leadership
  • recruiting for ownership rather than obedience
  • strengths-based employee development
  • creating a Fail Forward Culture
  • Talent Journey Ownership
  • delegation without losing accountability
  • developing people as a central leadership responsibility

Key question: Do your people feel led or managed?

Module 4: How You Lead Through Change

Transformation requires leaders who can provide orientation without pretending to have certainty.

Topics include:

  • leadership during transformation
  • creating orientation in uncertain situations
  • making decisions before all information is available
  • courage over comfort
  • representing your team upwards in the organisation
  • understanding change as a leadership responsibility

Key question: Are you optimising what exists – or questioning whether it should?

Module 5: Who You Have Become

The final module turns learning into a personal leadership direction.

Topics include:

  • Future Leadership Model self-assessment across five pillars
  • personal leadership development plan
  • peer feedback
  • individual leadership positioning
  • leadership pitch
  • defining concrete behavioural changes for everyday work

Key question: What will you do differently next week?

Key Leadership Themes

Across all five modules, participants work with the core principles of modern leadership:

  • horizontal and people-centred leadership
  • accountability without unnecessary control
  • mindset before methods
  • leadership during transformation
  • sustainable performance through people
  • servant leadership
  • representing employees upwards rather than simply passing directives downwards
  • practical application of the 3R Rule: Recognize – Reframe – Respond
Zielgruppe

Target Group

This programme is particularly suitable for professionals in large, international companies and organisations where English is the corporate or working language.

It is designed for:

  • emerging leaders preparing for their first formal leadership position
  • recently appointed managers
  • team leads and project leads with approximately 0–5 years of leadership experience
  • high-potential employees identified for future leadership responsibilities
  • professionals working in international or cross-border environments
  • leaders working in transformation, matrix or complex organisational structures
  • employees who need to lead and communicate confidently in English in an international corporate setting

The original programme explicitly addresses emerging leaders, team and project leads, high-potential employees and people working in or aspiring to international environments.

Why This Leadership Programme?

Many first-time and emerging leaders are promoted because of their professional or technical expertise. Leadership, however, requires a different set of capabilities.

The Future Leaders Lab addresses the transition from expert to leader by combining leadership identity, communication, team development and change leadership within one integrated programme.

Instead of treating these as separate management topics, participants experience them as interconnected leadership challenges through a continuous case study. The result is a programme focused not only on what leaders do, but on how leaders think, communicate and behave when situations become difficult.

Voraussetzungen

REQUIREMENTS
English Level B2 and higher

The programme is therefore suitable for participants who already use English professionally and want to strengthen their leadership capabilities in an English-speaking learning environment.
